Senator Sinema Has a Choice: Will She Protect the Freedom to Vote or Will She Contribute to the Irreversible Fall of American Democracy?

Jan 13, 2022

Every Senator will soon face a fundamental choice: Are they on the side of the people and the freedom to vote, or will they contribute to the irreversible fall of American democracy?

Since the deadly Capitol insurrection on January 6 of last year, Republican politicians have only continued their attack on the freedom of Americans to make their voices heard in safe, accessible, and transparent elections. They are actively putting in place the pieces to sabotage, subvert, or overturn the next elections. In 2021, an unprecedented over 440 anti-voter laws were introduced in 49 states, with 34 of those restrictive voting laws becoming law in 19 different states.

The Senate must do whatever it takes to counter these attacks. That means passing the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. There is no process, rule, or procedure in the Senate more important to the future of our democracy than this bill.

The legacy of any senator who fails to advance this bill will be one of siding with the anti-voting, election sabotage, dark money laws instead of siding with the American people. That vote is coming. We will continue our campaign and unrelenting pressure to make that clear to each Senator until the moment of the vote.
