The 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidates are making the case to the American people that getting big money out of politics will allow our country to make progress on everything from prescription drug prices to health care to gun violence prevention. Many are swearing off of corporate PAC money, lobbyist money, and help from single-candidate super PACs.
Well, all except for one.
So far, Governor Jay Inslee is the only candidate in the Democratic presidential primary who has embraced the help of a single-candidate super PAC, Act Now on Climate. The group has spent over $1.5 million boosting Governor Inslee’s campaign, has not disclosed the names of its donors, and is actively helping the Governor reach the 65,000 donors he needs to make it on to the DNC debate stage by running digital ads that link directly to the Governor’s campaign website.
“Governor Inslee is the odd man out in the Democratic presidential primary,” said End Citizens United Communications Director Patrick Burgwinkle. “The Democratic nominee will need support from a broad coalition of Americans in order to defeat President Trump. While Governor Inlsee is banking on the help of his single-candidate super PAC and big money donors to prop up his campaign, the other Democratic candidates are building authentic grassroots support. Governor Inslee should disavow his single-candidate super PAC and demand it cease all activities in the Democratic presidential primary.”
