Signing of GOP Voter Suppression Bill In Georgia Underscores Urgency to Pass For the People Act

Mar 25, 2021

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) signed a Republican election overhaul bill aimed at suppressing the right to vote:

“The concerted effort, backed by dark money, and driven by Georgia Republicans to suppress the right to vote–after an election with record turnout–is designed to make it harder for communities of color to participate in our democracy. Republicans didn’t like the outcome of the 2020 elections and now they are in the midst of an anti-democratic power grab in Georgia and across the country. This new law, and the more than 250 bills moving through 43 different states, underscore the urgent need for the Senate to swiftly pass the For the People Act. It is the only way to protect every Americans’ freedom and right to vote and ensure their voices are not drowned out by dark money and corporate special interests.

“S. 1 would protect the right to vote, ensure that we have accurate, safe, accessible elections, and stop these egregious voter suppression laws from disenfranchising voters. It would take on corruption in both parties, limit the influence of big money in politics and make small donors a powerful force in campaigns, so that government is accountable to the people.”
