“Today, we honor the courage and selfless sacrifices of our service members who have dedicated their lives to protecting and defending our freedoms in America. We are all forever grateful to the men and women in uniform and their families who have sacrificed so much to defend our democracy. The courage and strength they show each and every day is unmatched and serves as an inspiration.
“As we honor their service to protect our democracy, we must reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that we do not allow the foundational freedom of this nation–the freedom to vote–be restricted or suppressed. The Senate must pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act quickly to protect every American’s voice and vote in our democracy so that the system works for the people, as it was intended to do.”
