End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after news broke that President Trump’s former campaign chief executive and top advisor, Steve Bannon, was indicted for funneling large amounts of contributions from an online “Build the Wall” campaign for personal profit:
“Another day, another of President Trump’s campaign managers and former White House senior staffers has broken the law. Steve Bannon took advantage of our rigged and broken system to use dark money tactics to enrich himself.
“Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and the entire Republican Party have been plotting to remove any remaining oversight to this system. It would protect and hide their own cronies’ crimes, but it would come at great cost to the American people. As if there weren’t enough examples already, Steve Bannon’s indictment makes clear that we need more transparency, stronger ethics rules, and to pass The For The People Act (H.R. 1) to put an end to this corruption.”
