Ted Budd Wants to Protect His Wealthy Donors

Sep 22, 2022

Budd continues to protect corrupt system, secret spending

Congressman Ted Budd opposes the DISCLOSE Act, which Senate Republicans just blocked, to allow dark money to continue to corrupt our politics and allow billionaires and corporations to continue to buy our elections.

“It’s no surprise that Ted Budd wants to protect his wealthy dark money allies. They spent $15 million to drag him across the finish line of the GOP primary and paid tens of thousands of dollars to send Budd on luxury vacations,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “Budd knows that he and his billionaire friends benefit from dark money in our elections, and that’s exactly why he opposes the DISCLOSE Act and would vote against it in the Senate.”

The DISCLOSE Act:

  • Will shine a light on the flood of dark money in elections by requiring organizations that engage in electioneering – including super PACs and 501(c)(4) dark money groups – to disclose the identities of donors who have given them $10,000 or more during an election cycle.

  • Requires companies spending money in elections to disclose their true owners, so election officials and the public know who is behind the spending and stops foreign actors from meddling in our elections.

  • Is supported by 92% of voters

Ted Budd has voted against the DISCLOSE Act in the House.
