Ten years after the disastrous 2010 Citizens United decision, the 2020 election cycle is set to see more outside spending than any other election cycle, and for that, Americans have the Grand Old Party to thank. Republicans have successfully created and reinforced a rigged system that allows for unlimited and undisclosed spending and gives wealthy political donors and corporations undue access and influence over elections. In many states with competitive Senate races, outside spending over the last two years alone has eclipsed outside spending in the previous eight years.
