‘That’s a damning non-answer’ – JD Vance’s Refusal to Accept 2020 Election Results Defined Vice Presidential Debate

Oct 02, 2024

End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on how JD Vance’s refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election was the defining moment of last night’s vice presidential debate:

“JD Vance’s refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election is utterly disqualifying, as it shows he would put Donald Trump’s ego and Project 2025 ahead of our democracy. But this answer proves why JD Vance was on the stage last night instead of Mike Pence. The American people saw through his lies and gaslighting and understand that JD Vance cannot be trusted.”

See what voters and pundits had to say:

CNN: Undecided Michigan voter: “Well, I’m going to be voting for Kamala Harris. You know, one of the stark, sort of, aspects of that debate that really stuck with me, was when they were talking about January 6, and how Mike Pence certified the election, and they were wondering if JD Vance would certify the election should Trump lose. And you know, JD Vance didn’t really give us a definitive answer, and I’m disappointed in that fact. And I don’t think I can trust someone with my vote if they’re not going to respect it.“

CNN: Another undecided Michigan voter: “The one thing that stuck out to me was Vance’s refusal to say whether or not Trump lost the 2020 election. … His refusal to agree with those things that most people really clearly see makes me think he is not as trustworthy.”

MSNBC: Former RNC Chair Michael Steele: “I don’t care where you are on policy. If you cannot answer whether Trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.”

CNN: Abby Phillip: “That answer on January 6 was embarrassing for JD Vance. He seemed like he wanted to do one thing and that was please Donald Trump.”
