The Billionaire’s Verdict: Abortion Access is at Stake in Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine

Mar 26, 2024

The Supreme Court today will hear oral arguments for Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine / Danco Laboratories, L.L.C. v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, a case that looks to severely restrict the use of mifepristone—a safe and effective medication used in most medical abortions across the country.

“After spending over $1.1 billion to capture the Supreme Court and overturn Roe v. Wade, Leonard Leo and his dark money network continue to flood the courts with cases to ban abortion and restrict a woman’s right to make decisions about her body,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Today’s case exists solely to allow Leo’s hand-picked justices to continue their all out assault on reproductive freedoms. The corrupt MAGA justices have put our rights up for sale, allowing their billionaire benefactors and corrupt dark money networks to cash in on their investments as they undermine our democracy.”

Justice Clarence Thomas has been showered in lavish gifts and money by billionaires connected to Leo, all of which were unreported until bombshell revelations over the summer. Thomas also has connections to a key judge in the original 5th Circuit’s decision in Danco Laboratories, L.L.C. v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine—he swore James Ho onto the bench himself in Harlan Crow’s library. Ho’s wife has been paid by Alliance Defending Freedom lawyers—the lawyers from the very group looking to ban mifepristone. The group has been bankrolled by the Leo funded Donors Trust and has direct ties to Leo himself, who spent over a billion dollars to capture the Supreme Court and use his shadowy network to strip women of their reproductive freedoms and advance an extreme agenda.
