The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act Deserves a Robust Debate on the Floor of the U.S. Senate

Jan 18, 2022

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the Senate debate on the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act:

“Today, the Senate started debate on the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. The Senate must give this bill a full and robust debate and use this debate to shine a light on those who choose to deny Americans the freedom to vote and build mounting pressure until that position becomes untenable. The bottom line is that the Senate must debate this bill until it passes the reforms needed to restore the Senate so it can enact this bill.

“Senators have a choice to meet their moral and constitutional responsibility to pass this bill or they are supporting laws that restrict voting, particularly for Black and brown voters, and they are standing with the efforts being put in place to overturn and sabotage elections that threaten the future of our democracy.”
