Transplant Turmoil: Another Bad Week for the GOP’s Out-of-State Senate Wannabes

Mar 08, 2024

With so many wealthy, out-of-state Republican Senate candidates proving just how out-of-touch they are, End Citizens United is launching a new series to highlight their weekly Transplant Turmoil. Whether these carpetbaggers are trying to buy their own seat or were handpicked by Mitch McConnell, they all share the same ideals that puts MAGA extremism and corporate greed ahead of American families.

What the out-of-state candidates have been up to:

#MISen: Florida-Man Mike Rogers

  • In a recent radio interview, Rogers spewed hateful white nationalist rhetoric, baselessly claiming that ‘foreigners’ and ‘people that don’t speak English are a ‘recipe for criminal activity.’

  • Following the backlash against Republican opposition to IVF treatments, his staunch opposition towards reproductive rights has been brought back into the spotlight—while in Congress, Rogers’ cosponsored four personhood bills that did not protect IVF.

#MTSen: Wannabe Cowboy Millionaire Tim Sheehy

  • After a new exposé connecting him to Big Pharma, it’s clear why Sheehy is against lowering prescription drug prices for working families—in 2023, he took in nearly $20,000 from drug lobbyists, several of whom are challenging President Biden’s work to lower drug and insulin costs.

  • His endorsement from an radical anti-choice group is a reminder to Montanas that he previously compared abortions to “murdering” children and refuses to support the Access to Family Building Act, which protects reproductive rights.

#NVSen: Scam Brown

  • Brown’s campaign refused to elaborate on his support for IVF or how he’d vote on the legislation following the Alabama Supreme Court’s decision. This follows videos recently resurfacing of Brown advocating for stricter abortion bans in Texas during his failed run for office in the Lone State.

#PASen: Hedge Fund Millionaire David McCormick

  • After telling voters he would be living “on the bus” during his tour across Pennsylvania, McCormick flew back to his home in Connecticut that very night. On the tour, when asked about high gas prices, he bizarrely pointed to his wife, saying she is “on the board of Exxon,” rather than give a substantial answer.

  • McCormick has made repealing President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law a key component of his campaign, but seems completely unaware of what is actually in the bill and how Pennsylvania has benefitted from receiving the $13.1 billion. When asked, McCormick admitted, “I don’t know the facts, the pros and cons.”

  • In another unusual move, McCormick confirmed his own unpopularity across the state, releasing an internal poll that showed him down seven points with Pennsylvanians compared to Senator Casey.

  • Further cementing his connection with corporate PACs and billionaires, the Koch network’s dark money group Americans for Prosperity just launched a $1 million ad for McCormick.

#WISen: Californian McConnell Recruit Eric Hovde

  • Instead of building support from local businesses, Hovde got the green-light to demolish a local Madison arcade and bar with no concrete plans on what to do with the space.

  • After claiming himself a ‘uniter’, Hovde announced a fundraiser event with election denialist and extreme conspiracy theorist (and fellow out-of-stater) Marjorie Taylor Greene.

  • Hovde continued to spend more time shirtless in Lake Mendota—in front of his lakefront mansion—trying to prove himself to be a Wisconsinite and defending his facial hair than discussing the issues that working families face.
