What Is Bob Good Hiding?

Oct 02, 2020

While Dr. Cameron Webb, the Democratic candidate in Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District, has been transparent about his personal finances, his Republican opponent Bob Good is under scrutiny for a potential misfiling of his Financial Disclosure Report, a process required when running for office that ensures transparency about a candidate’s potential conflicts of interest.

“These laws are in place for a reason: to hold politicians like Bob Good accountable,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Bob Good thinks he’s exempt from following the rules. Concealing financial information is expressly prohibited by FEC laws and ethics rules, and it should be investigated immediately. What’s Bob Good got to hide?”

Cameron Webb listed eight items on his form and Denver Riggleman, current Republican Representative for VA-05, listed ten. Bob Good, on the other hand, listed none.

The potential failure to disclose his finances begs the question: what is Bob Good hiding from Virginia voters?

The Ethics in Government Act (EIGA), which requires candidates to disclose personal financial information when running for office, clearly states that if candidates intentionally file a false statement, the Attorney General can file a civil action against the candidate. If Good has any personal assets or unearned income that he purposefully did not disclose, he and his campaign should be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
