Rep. Chris Pappas co-sponsored and voted to pass the historic anti-corruption bill, the For the People Act (H.R. 1)
Since the Citizens United decision, New Hampshire has been a hotbed of outside special interest spending with over $174 million spent in just 10 years
Citizens United, the group headed by David Bossie and the namesake behind the disastrous 2010 Supreme Court decision, endorsed Republican Matt Mowers for New Hampshire’s First Congressional District. While Mowers celebrates the endorsement of a group that embodies the vicious cycle of dark money in politics, Rep. Chris Pappas is changing the way Washington works by fighting corruption and passing legislation aimed at returning power back to New Hampshire families. Since the Citizens United decision, New Hampshire has been a top target of outside special interest groups, which have spent over $174 million in the state.
“Gaining the endorsement of Citizens United, the organization behind the Supreme Court case that broke our democracy, isn’t a badge of honor for Matt Mowers. It’s one of shame,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “The difference between Pappas and Mowers is night and day. Representative Chris Pappas has delivered on promises to clean up Washington and make it work for Granite Staters. Pappas has been tireless in the fight against corruption for New Hampshire families, and End Citizens United is proud to stand with him.”
In his first year in office, Rep. Pappas co-sponsored and voted to pass the For the People Act (H.R. 1), the most sweeping anti-corruption and government reform bill since Watergate. In January, End Citizens United Action Fund released its first annual legislative scorecard that tracked and graded the efforts of every member of Congress on money in politics and government reform issues. Representative Chris Pappas received an “A+” for supporting common sense legislation that roots out corruption, increases transparency, and strengthens ethics in government.
End Citizens United (ECU) endorsed Rep. Chris Pappas’ re-election campaign in March of 2019 because of his commitment to fighting corruption. As a candidate during the 2018 election cycle, Rep. Chris Pappas put anti-corruption and money-in-politics reforms front and center in his campaign. Pappas regularly talked about his no corporate PAC pledge and the need to overturn the Citizens United decision on the campaign trail.
ECU is dedicated to getting big money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so government works for all Americans. The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 9,600 in NH-01, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
