“Congratulations to Justice Cheri Beasley on her victory tonight. As she now moves into the general election, Beasley is in an excellent position to defeat Congressman Ted Budd, one of the most corrupt dark money D.C. insiders who puts corporate special interests above North Carolina.
“Congressman Budd barely survived a nasty and volatile brawl in the primary, where he needed $15 million in outside, dark money spending to carry him over the finish line. And as these same corporate and billionaire-backed dark money forces prepare to prop Budd’s campaign up in the general election, it is clear that he wants to go to the Senate to repay his wealthy supporters and work on behalf of their lobbyists, not for working families in North Carolina. Even Republicans have said Budd is a weak candidate who is ‘wholly owned and operated’ by dark money groups.
“Budd embodies everything about D.C. insiders that North Carolinians are sick and tired of. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Budd sided against the overwhelming majority of North Carolinians to oppose a much-needed relief bill, while his family’s wealthy business took out a $10 million PPP loan, the maximum amount of taxpayer money they were able to take.
“North Carolinians will see right through Budd’s hypocrisy and corruption and elect anti-corruption and voting rights champion Justice Cheri Beasley.”
