ECU: Mulvaney Confirms Americans’ Worst Beliefs About Washington; Must Resign

Apr 25, 2018

End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement calling for the resignation of Mick Mulvaney. Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget and interim director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau told banking industry executives on Tuesday that they should press lawmakers hard to pursue their agenda and revealed that, as a congressman, he would meet only with lobbyists if they had contributed to his campaign.

“Mick Mulvaney just confirmed Americans’ worst beliefs about Washington: Politicians have rigged the system so people who write the biggest checks have the biggest say. It’s why people think their votes don’t count, and why they don’t trust their own government to put their best interests first.

“Mulvaney, who is the head of the agency that is tasked with protecting consumers from bank fraud and abuse, has told financial institutions they should pay for access with members of Congress to get their way. He admitted to a corrupt pay-to-play policy of only meeting with donors. He must resign, or the President must fire him. It’s time we throw these corrupt politicians out of office and unrig the system so that it works for all Americans.”
