End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the below statement following President Trump’s failure to announce support for H.R. 1, the For the People Act, at tonight’s State of the Union address:
“President Trump failed to assure the American people he would stand with them in support of H.R. 1, the strongest anti-corruption and reform bill in a generation. Americans are calling for bold leadership and real action to clean up corruption and unrig the system so it works for everyone, not just special interests and big donors. Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump is out of step with the vast majority of people in this country.
“The 2018 elections were a testament to the desire Americans have for fixing Washington. They elected a wave of reformers, who kept their promise and introduced the For the People Act. We will continue this fight and hold President Trump and any other politician who defends the status quo accountable. It’s past time the corrupt big money system comes tumbling to an end.”
