Campaign finance reform group also expands communications, finance departments

End Citizens United (ECU) announced today that Jody Murphy has been named the organization’s new Political Director.  Murphy will develop and oversee ECU’s political department as well as its new advocacy department, while working with endorsed candidates and their campaigns.

Prior to heading ECU’s Political Department, Murphy served as the organization’s Independent Expenditure Director, helping to elect candidates in key races who support meaningful campaign finance reform, including Senators-elect Catherine Cortez Masto and Maggie Hassan.  Before his tenure with ECU, Murphy served as a political director and, later, the Independent Expenditure Director for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC).

“Jody has already done tremendous work for ECU, coordinating our IE in more than a dozen competitive races in 2016.  We’re excited to bring him on as Political Director as we bolster our outreach and advocacy efforts in 2017 and prepare for the 2018 electoral cycle,” said Tiffany Muller, Executive Director of ECU.

ECU also announced the creation of an Advocacy Department, which will be led by Sela Brown, who was promoted to Advocacy Director.  The department will enhance ECU’s efforts to mobilize support for campaign finance reform. Through grassroots organizing, ECU will activate its membership of 3 million Americans who have already demonstrated a passion for overturning Citizens United.  End Citizens United will fight to reform our campaign finance system and oppose efforts to further weaken campaign finance laws by engaging at the federal and state level.

The campaign finance reform group is also expanding its communications and finance operations.  It has promoted Bawadden Sayed to Deputy Communications Director, brought on Christine Fujiki as Finance Assistant, and hired Rachel McGovern, who worked on the organization’s IE, as Staff Assistant.

End Citizens United, a grassroots funded political action committee (PAC), was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system.  To date, more than 3 million grassroots members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
