End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Andy Kim for Congress in New Jersey’s 3rd district. Kim is making getting money out of politics a key pillar of his campaign and is rejecting corporate PAC money.
“By taking a stand to reject corporate PAC money, Andy Kim is proving that he’s accountable to the people of New Jersey, not greedy corporate special interests. He’s putting his money where his mouth is,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Andy stands in stark contrast to his opponent, Congressman Tom MacArthur, who’s bought and paid for by special interests and works to protect the rigged system. We look forward to working with Andy to give a voice to those who have been ignored by MacArthur and his corporate sponsors.”
“I’m running for Congress because my home district deserves a representative that focuses on people, not special interests,” said Andy Kim, candidate for New Jersey’s 3rd district. “I pledge to not take a dime from corporations and corporate PACs because I’m running a people-powered campaign. I hope my opponent, Tom MacArthur, will do the same. After MacArthur authored TrumpCare and got that bill passed through the House, Trump threw him a massive fundraiser at a Trump golf course, and MacArthur raised more money from corporations and PACs run by the Koch Brothers and Paul Ryan than he did from individual people. I’m proud to receive the endorsement of End Citizens United and to bring our democracy back to the people.”
While Andy Kim has pledged to not accept a dime of corporate PAC money, his opponent Congressman Tom MacArthur has taken nearly $1 million from corporate PACs over the course of his career in Congress and fought to increase the role of Big Money in politics. MacArthur supports a bill backed by the mega-donor Koch brothers that seeks to keep New Jersey voters in the dark about who’s spending to influence elections. He also voted to block a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
End Citizens United will connect Kim’s campaign with its 6,800 members in New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district and activate its 360,000 national donors to help ensure he has the resources to win. This cycle, ECU has raised almost $2 million in small-dollar, grassroots donations for its endorsed candidates.
ECU is a grassroots-funded organization dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, undisclosed money from our political system. Founded over two years ago, the group has grown to more than three million members.
