End Citizens United Endorses Carolyn Long For WA-03

Sep 18, 2019

Long is rejecting corporate PAC money

In a traditionally red district, Long ran a competitive race in the 2018 midterm cycle

End Citizens United (ECU) endorsed Carolyn Long for Congress in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District. Long is running a grassroots-powered campaign and is rejecting corporate PAC money. In 2018, ECU endorsed Long in a competitive race where she came within five points of winning a district that is historically a Republican stronghold.

“Carolyn Long’s rejection of corporate PAC money highlights her commitment to fighting for southwest Washington families, not corporate special interests,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Carolyn understands the importance of reducing health care costs and lowering the price of prescription drugs. She also understands that making progress isn’t possible while politicians like her opponent, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, has taken over $1.1 million in corporate PAC money over the course of her career. End Citizens United is proud to endorse Carolyn Long, and we are excited to help her win in 2020.”

“Southwest Washingtonians deserve a representative who is committed and accountable to them, not corporations who write checks and then give marching orders,” said Carolyn Long. “This is precisely why I didn’t take a dime of corporate PAC money in 2018 and I remain committed to not taking corporate PAC money in the future. I am honored to receive the endorsement of End Citizens United which illustrates my strong commitment to this issue and I look forward to working with them to win in 2020, restore our democracy and put political power back in the hands of the people.”

During the 2018 election cycle, ECU spearheaded the movement among candidates to forgo corporate PAC money in their campaigns. In the 116th Congress, nearly 60 members are refusing to take corporate PAC money, which includes 27 members of the House freshman class who flipped their district.

ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington D.C. so government works for all Americans. The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 10,000 in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
