End Citizens United Statement on House Passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act

Dec 06, 2019

End Citizens United Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4) in the U.S. House:

“Our democracy only works when every American has equal access to the voting booth. The Voting Rights Advancement Act ensures all eligible voters can cast their ballot free from discrimination. We applaud Rep. Terri Sewell for her leadership on the bill and the House for passing this vital piece of legislation. The Voting Rights Advancement Act is critical to keeping the promise of our democracy.”

H.R. 4 restores the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by establishing a policy to determine which states must make changes to their voting procedures pre-cleared by the Department of Justice. Where a threat of racial discrimination is present, it will give the Attorney General the authority to request federal observers to oversee voting.
