GOP Members Who Voted for Health Care Repeal Rewarded by Secret Special Interest Group

A secret special interest group is spending $2 million to Boost House Republicans who Voted to Take Away Health Care from Millions

Washington, DC – A secretive special interest group is spending $2 million to reward 21 Republican members of Congress who voted yesterday to take away health care from an estimated 24 million Americans.

The Republican repeal bill will raise health care costs for Americans, while upwards of 24 million people could lose coverage altogether. It institutes an age tax for seniors, allowing insurance companies to charge higher rates for people over the age of 50, and it would put Americans with pre-existing conditions, such as cancer, asthma, or even pregnancy, at risk by gutting life-saving protections from the law. Following yesterday’s vote, the American Action Network, a secret dark money group that will not reveal the source of its funding, announced a $2 million dollar ad blitz for 21 Republican members who voted for repeal.

“House Republicans voted to destroy health care for millions of hardworking American families. As they celebrated their repeal in the Capitol and at the White House, their secretive special interest allies immediately got to work doling out cash, repaying those politicians with $2 million worth of ads to deceive their constituents into thinking it was a good move” said ECU President and Executive Director Tiffany Muller. “Americans are literally sickened by the rigged system in Washington, which puts politicians in the pockets of special interests. At home this week for Congressional vacation, these members of Congress will be held accountable by their constituents, and ECU will continue to shine a light on their cynical Washington politics.”

The full list of Republicans benefitting from the secret dark money includes: Martha McSally (AZ-02), Jeff Denham (CA-10), David Valadao (CA-21), Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), Steve Knight (CA-25), Ed Royce (CA-39),Darrell Issa (CA-49), Brian Mast (FL-18), Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), Rod Blum (IA-01), Peter Roskam (IL-06), Rodney Davis (IL-13), Kevin Yoder (KS-03), Bruce Poliquin (ME-02), Erik Paulsen (MN-03), Don Bacon (NE-02), Tom MacArthur (NJ-03) Jim Jordan (OH-04), Pat Tiberi (OH-12), Greg Walden (OR-02) and Paul Ryan (WI-01).
