End Citizens United (ECU) today announced that it is launching a six figure ad campaign to support Zephyr Teachout’s bid for Congress in New York’s 19thcongressional district.

ECU has endorsed Teachout, a leader in the fight to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and end the flow of unlimited, undisclosed spending in our elections. Her opponent, John Faso, has repeatedly defended a broken, gridlocked system that has enabled the outsized influence that corporate special interests and billionaires have in our politics today.  He even claimed that campaign finance reform “could put the U.S. on the road to tyranny.”

“Zephyr Teachout has been a trailblazer in the fight to reform our campaign finance system and to end the undue influence big money has on our politics.  Justice Stevens even cited her work in his dissent to the Citizens Uniteddecision, which opened the door to the flood of unlimited, secret spending in our elections,” said Tiffany Muller, ECU Executive Director.  “Zephyr’s dedication to restoring the voice of New York families in our democracy and to ensuring today’s economy works for all New Yorkers and Americans has made her a champion of the grassroots.  While she’s bringing people together, her opponent, John Faso, has defended Citizens United and has voted to protect the special interests who are rigging the system for their own benefit.”

The $230,000 ad campaign will run in the Albany- Schenectady-Troy market and the Utica-Rome market.  It will run from September 27 through October 10.

End Citizens United, a grassroots funded political action committee (PAC), was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens Unitedand reform our campaign finance system.  To date, more than 1.5 million grassroots members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
