Steve Bullock Puts Reform Front and Center in Presidential Announcement

The Montana Governor is the 23rd candidate to join a Democratic presidential primary focused on campaign finance reform

“We need to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 and defeat the corrupt system that lets campaign money drown out the people’s voice”

Governor Steve Bullock threw his hat into the 2020 Democratic presidential primary this morning with a message focused on rooting out the corrosive, corrupting influence of money in politics and restoring the promise of our democracy. The Montana governor launched his campaign with the video “Fair Shot” in which he focuses on his background as a reformer and standing up to Big Money special interests in the wake of the disastrous Citizens United decision.

“Governor Bullock’s decision to make the issue of reform the central theme of his campaign launch and provide a comprehensive plan to address the problem is an incredible act leadership,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “He knows that progress on affordable healthcare, building an economy that works for everyone, tackling climate change and so many other issues is only possible when Washington starts working for the people, not corporations or special interests. End Citizens United looks forward to seeing the Demcoratic presidential candidates continue to put forth plans to fix our broken political system so that every American’s voice is heard.”

On his campaign website, Bullock provides a detailed plan to root out the influence of dark money and restore power back to the people. The plan includes signing an executive order to crack down on dark money, empowering watchdogs to enforce our campaign laws, banning super PACs, passing the federal DISCLOSE Act, and building the movement to overturn Citizens United.
