End Citizens United Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Congress

Sherrill committed to ending the rigged system, enacting meaningful campaign finance reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. — End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Mikie Sherrill for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional district.

“Too many members of Congress, like Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen, are wearing earmuffs made of special interest money. They’re not listening to the people they’re supposed to represent,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Mikie Sherrill is committed to getting unlimited and secret special interest money out of politics so that everyday Americans can have their voices heard. Voters in the district are searching for a leader who will work to unrig the system. We look forward to connecting our grassroots members with Sherrill’s campaign to help her win this pivotal seat next November.”

“I am so proud to have the endorsement of End Citizens United PAC. The outsized influence of money in American politics gives corporations and the people with the most money too much control over public policy and governance. Instead, we need real leadership from people who will work to hear from all of their constituents. Our current Congressman, for example, is out of touch with the people and communities across the 11th District. He refuses to hold a town hall and even wrote a letter to a constituent’s employer that forced her to resign, all because she belonged to a group that simply asked to be heard. In Congress, I’ll work hard every day to break down barriers between ordinary Americans and the government that serves them, from holding town halls to taking on the corrupting influence of money in our politics. Our democracy requires nothing less,” said Mikie Sherrill.

Mikie Sherrill’s candidacy stands in marked contrast to Representative Frelinghuysen’s, whose name epitomizes the influence of Big Money in politics. While Frelinghuysen looks out for the interests of his mega-donors, Sherrill, a committed reformer, will fight to unrig the broken system and get Congress working for everyday American families.

ECU’s endorsement will help Sherrill compete with high-spending special interest groups by connecting her with its nearly 8,300 grassroots members in NJ-11, as well as its national network of 380,000 small-dollar donors. With an average donation of $14, ECU is projected to raise $35 million for the 2018 election cycle.
ECU is a grassroots fueled organization giving a voice to millions of American families. The group is dedicated to overturning Citizens United and passing meaningful campaign finance reform that will return the power of government to the people.
