End Citizens United Launches Digital Ad Campaign Targeting GOP Senators Who Blocked Corporate Disclosure Rule

WASHINGTON — End Citizens United PAC today announced a major digital ad campaign targeting Republican Senators Mitch McConnell (Ky.), Richard Shelby (Ala.), Thad Cochran (Miss.) and John Boozman (Ark.).

Those four Republican Senators recently submitted a brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals opposing a petition requiring the SEC to propose a rule on company campaign disclosures. This would allow companies to continue to spend to influence elections without disclosing those expenditures.

The digital ads will run in each of the Republican Senators’ home states as well as the District of Columbia. (See below for an example of the ads).

“Republicans are fighting on every front to block disclosure of corporate political spending,” said Tiffany Muller, Executive Director for End Citizens United.  “In order to pass campaign finance reform we need to be just as aggressive.”

“These four Senators stepped in to protect the anonymous corporate money flooding into our elections — a position that polling shows most Americans find abhorrent,” Muller added. “Now it’s our turn to make sure their constituents hear about it.”

End Citizens United PAC was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. To date, more than 1.3 million grassroots members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
