End Citizens United (ECU) praised Senator Cory Booker today for his decision to reject corporate PAC money. Booker is part of a growing trend, as an unprecedented number of candidates are refusing to take money from corporate PACs. ECU encourages its endorsed candidates to commit to turning down special interest money.
“Senator Booker’s decision to reject corporate PAC money demonstrates his leadership in the fight to unrig the system that’s leaving too many Americans behind. He’s showing he will be accountable to the people and not the agenda of corporate special interests.” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “End Citizens United thanks Senator Booker and looks forward to working with him to reform the broken system so everyone has a voice in our democracy.”
Booker’s decision to reject money from corporate interests is part of a growing trend of candidates across the country who are refusing corporate PAC money. It comes on the heels of a major announcement yesterday by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who announced, in conjunction with an endorsement from ECU, that she’s rejecting all corporate PAC money in her re-election campaign. ECU is aware of more than 70 candidates who are rejecting the money, including it’s endorsed candidates such as Representative Beto O’Rourke (TX-Senate), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Conor Lamb (PA-18), Dean Phillips (MN-03), Christina Hartman (PA-16), Randy Bryce (WI-01) and Andy Kim (NJ-03). As voters become increasingly frustrated with the way Washington conducts business, candidates who make this commitment demonstrate to voters that they are fighting for them and not corporate special interests.
