It’s official — Senator Bernie Sanders is running for president!
If you’re a supporter of meaningful campaign finance reform, you’re in luck. Senator Sanders has long been a vocal critic of the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United.
On day one, Sanders predicted the disastrous effects of this case:
This ruling will “give control of the political process in the United States to the wealthiest and most powerful institutions in the world and the candidates who support their agenda. Instead of democracy being about one-person one-vote, it will now be about the size of a company’s bank account.”
~ Sen. Bernie Sanders, January 21, 2010
Oh, how right he was.
Since then, Sanders has been one of the loudest and strongest voices fighting to take back our democracy by restoring power to the people — not the wealthy.
Now that he’s running for president, he’ll have an even larger platform to push for an end to Citizens United once and for all. We can’t wait to follow his campaign as Sanders continues to push for campaign finance reform.
