(Ann Arbor Independent) Mike Rogers and his friends at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) have placed in the Detroit media market an ad that, unironically, claims that he will take on big corporations and fight to change Washington to put Michigan families first. His record shows otherwise.
While in Washington, Rogers used his office to enrich himself and his corporate donors. He took that time—not to rein in shadowy special interests or corporate greed—but instead, to cozy up to big corporations. He took $5 million in corporate PAC money and then turned around and advanced their agenda at the expense of working families—including voting to safeguard billions in corporate tax breaks, and voting against lowering prescription drug costs for working families.
In return, the same companies that Rogers fought for placed him on their Boards of Directors after he left office. He passed through the revolving door, ensuring that his pockets would continue to be lined by corporate money long after his time in Washington had ended. Instead of using his time in Congress to fight for the people, he used it to secure his future fortune.
Just because he left Michigan a decade ago to make millions doing the bidding of corporations and owns a mansion in Florida, doesn’t mean that Michigan families have forgotten his record. Voters shouldn’t trust him. Rogers sold them out before and he will sell them out again.
