End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement condemning Attorney General Pam Bondi and President Donald Trump for eliminating the FBI team dedicated to protecting our elections from foreign interference:
“The Attorney General’s announcement is an open invitation for foreign adversaries to meddle in our elections. Eliminating the FBI’s election security team isn’t about a lack of threats––it’s all about appeasing Trump and dismantling the system that exposed how Russia helped him. With no FBI oversight, woefully inadequate campaign finance laws, and a completely ineffective FEC, Trump and Bondi have all but guaranteed foreign actors will exploit these weaknesses. This reckless and blatantly political move poses a grave national security risk.”
ECU has long led the charge to expose vulnerabilities within our campaign finance system that allow foreign interference and has been at the forefront of pushing Congress to pass commonsense legislation to close these loopholes. The group has championed reforms like the Freedom to Vote Act, the SHIELD Act, the Honest Ads Act, the SAFE Act, and the DISCLOSE Act.
