ECU // LAV: New Report Details How Election Deniers Could Manipulate Voting Process

Oct 26, 2022

Election-Denying Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General Candidates Put Democracy Under Threat

Election-denying Republican candidates for Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General in key states around the country would have broad powers to restrict ballot access and subvert our elections if they win this fall, which could lead to chaos and a constitutional crisis in the 2024 election, according to a new report released today by End Citizens United // Let America Vote.

“These candidates have spent their campaigns spreading lies and conspiracy theories about our elections with the sole purpose of winning office to sabotage future elections. This report makes clear that these candidates would enact unnecessary new ballot restrictions, initiate dangerous and evidence-free investigations to intimidate voters, and try to overturn the 2024 presidential election if their candidate doesn’t win,” said Tiffany Muller, President of End Citizens United // Let America Vote.

The report, “Under Threat: How Election Deniers Could Thwart the Next Election,” details the exact powers each of these officials have in five key 2024 battleground states to manipulate or sabotage the election, from drafting official voting practices manuals that add unnecessary and arbitrary rules and restrictions to refusing to certify an election when their preferred candidate doesn’t win. Using these candidates’ own words and promises, the report highlights exactly how these candidates could undermine our democracy if they win and the important stakes of this November’s election.

The full report–analyzing the election authority for Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General candidates in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin–is available here on our website.
