A week after an investigation by the Associated Press uncovered a single dark money group funded 93% of a pro-Mandel Super PAC, today Citizens United Political Victory Fund endorsed Josh Mandel for Senate. The news comes on the heels of End Citizens United’s endorsement of Sherrod Brown, a proven fighter for campaign finance reform.
Tiffany Muller, executive director for End Citizens United, released the following statement:
“It is no surprise that Josh Mandel has earned the endorsement of Citizens United. This is a professional politician who’s bankrolled his failed Senate campaigns through a network of murky Super PACs and secret money groups. Meanwhile, Citizens United has exploited loopholes and engaged in shady campaign finance tactics. It worked to undermine election law, leading to the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United vs. FEC decision which opened the door to unchecked, unaccountable political spending, putting our democracy on sale to the highest bidder.
“Josh Mandel and Citizens United are a perfect match – putting corporate special interests first, while shutting out Ohio families. In clear contrast, Sherrod Brown has a record fighting for transparency and accountability, which has earned him support from hard-working Ohioans, including grassroots groups like End Citizens United.”
