End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller today released the following statement in response to the recent indictments of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates and the guilty plea by Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos:
“The chairman of the Trump campaign and his deputy have been charged with conspiracy against the United States and 11 other charges tied to their work on behalf of a pro-Putin president. A foreign policy advisor to the campaign has plead guilty to making false statements regarding his interactions with agents of the Russian government offering to assist the campaign. These revelations underscore the necessity of protecting the integrity of the special counsel’s independence and of stopping foreign interference in our elections. We must elect candidates who will reform the system so that Americans have confidence that our democracy is not being unduly influenced—whether by foreign governments or special interests.”
