Allred rejects corporate PAC money and helped pass the For the People Act, a once-in-a-generation reform bill
End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Congressman Colin Allred on winning re-election in Texas 32nd Congressional District:
“Congratulations to Congressman Colin Allred. As a voting and civil rights attorney, Colin saw the impact of voter suppression firsthand, which led him to make the issue a top priority in Congress. In his first term, Colin championed rooting out corruption by getting Big Money out of politics and ensuring every eligible voter has access to cast their ballot. He was a leader in the passage of the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption, ethics, and voting rights bill in a generation and led the charge to pass the Voting Rights Act in the House. Colin rejects corporate PAC money because he’s in Congress to be a voice for North Texans, not wealthy donors or corporate special interests. His re-election sends a powerful message to these bad actors that their time is up in Washington. We are proud to support Congressman Colin Allred and look forward to working alongside him in his second term.”
ECU and LAV endorsed Colin Allred for re-election in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements because of his commitment to unrig the broken system in Washington. ECU raised and donated more than $104,500 in small-dollar grassroots contributions from its members this cycle to Allred’s campaign and hosted a virtual campaign event discussing his commitment to taking on the corruption in Washington and passing reforms to end the influence of Big Money and protect the right to vote. Allred, who ran on a platform of reform in both 2018 and 2020, rejects corporate PAC money and showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 4,700 in TX-32, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
