End Citizens United and Let America Vote Congratulate Congresswoman Katie Porter on General Election Win in CA-45

Nov 04, 2020

Porter rejects corporate PAC money and led the charge to pass the For the People Act, a once-in-a-generation reform bill

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Congresswoman Katie Porter won re-election in CA-45:

“Congratulations to Congresswoman Katie Porter. Katie has tackled Washington corruption at every turn since stepping foot on Capitol Hill. She rejects corporate PAC money, co-founded the End Corruption Caucus, and led the fight to pass the For the People Act, the biggest anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics reform bill in a generation, and put forth a bill to require the disclosure of foreign business interests of senior government officials and to prevent political appointees from receiving payments from foreign entities. In congressional hearings, Katie has done a remarkable job of holding the heads of corporations and government agencies accountable. She’s spent the past two years fighting for Californians, and that’s why they re-elected her to continue the incredible work she’s started. We’re proud to support Congresswoman Katie Porter and look forward to working alongside her.”

ECU and LAV endorsed Katie Porter for re-election in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements because of her commitment to unrig the broken system in Washington. ECU had a total impact of over $886,000 in small dollar grassroots contributions from its members this cycle to Porter’s campaign. ECU hosted five virtual campaign events discussing her commitment to taking on the corruption in Washington and passing reforms to end the influence of Big Money and protect the right to vote. Porter, who ran on a platform of reform in both 2018 and 2020, rejects corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money and showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including over 8,700 in CA-45, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
