End Citizens United and Let America Vote Endorse Twenty House Democrats

Oct 02, 2020

All twenty members support the For the People Act (H.R. 1), a once-in-a-generation anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics reform bill

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today announced its endorsement of twenty House Democrats. These reform-focused members of the U.S. House of Representatives support H.R.1, the toughest anti-corruption reform bill in a generation, proving their commitment to democracy reform and rooting out corruption in Washington.

“Since they were elected, these House members have gone to work for their constituents by supporting the toughest ethics and anti-corruption reform bill since Watergate, ” said ECU and LAV President Tiffany Muller. “These candidates have made fighting the influence of money in politics a top priority in Washington and will continue this fight because they know the work for a more democratic future has only just begun. We’re proud to endorse these twenty reform-focused candidates, and we look forward to helping them win.”

The list of endorsed candidates include: Rep. Jerry McNerney (CA-09), Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11), Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13), Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Rep. Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52), Rep. Joe Neguse (CO-02), Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04), Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL), Rep. Val Demings (FL-10), Rep. Ed Case (HI-01), Rep. Jesús Chuy García (IL-04), Rep. John Yarmuth (KY-03), Rep. Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Rep. Andy Levin (MI-09), Rep. Betty McCollum (MN-04), Rep. Kurt Schrader (OR-05), Rep. Brendan Boyle (PA-02), Rep. Madeleine Dean (PA-04).

Democracy reform has been a priority for House Democrats. In March of 2019, H.R. 1 passed the House with the support of 237 co-sponsors. H.R. 1 is the most aggressive reform bill, and includes rooting out dark money and foreign interference in our elections, fixing our broken campaign finance system, tightening ethics laws, cracking down on lobbyists, limiting partisan gerrymandering used to manipulate elections, and expanding and protecting the right to vote.

ECU and LAV will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. ECU has more than four million members nationwide, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14. In 2018, over 1,000 LAV grassroots volunteers knocked on over 340,000 doors, made 112,000 calls, and sent 341,000 texts to help elect 100 pro-democracy leaders.
