End Citizens United and Let America Vote: Republican-Controlled Senate Should Let Next President Choose Nominee Or Lose Their Majority

Sep 25, 2020

57% of Americans want the winner of the presidential election to pick a nominee and favor delaying the Senate’s vote until next year

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement opposing President Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court:

“President Trump’s decision to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a threat to our democracy. Coney Barrett will side with the extreme right wing of the Supreme Court and further rig the system in favor of corporate special interests and mega-donors with radical agendas. Everyday Americans will pay the price.

Citizens United put a for sale sign on our democracy. As a member of The Federalist Society, Coney Barrett would only give corporate special interests and mega-donors more power over our political system, siding with the wealthy and powerful over the rights of the American people––allowing more money and less transparency into our elections and supporting voter suppression efforts. Her record also shows that she would overturn rulings protecting critical issues impacting Americans for the rest of their lives, including a woman’s right to choose and healthcare.

“With nearly five weeks until Election Day, Mitch McConnell and the Republican-controlled Senate need to adhere to the standard they set in 2016 and allow the next president to fill the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat. This is what the American people want. Mitch McConnell should listen to them, or he will lose his majority. End Citizens United and Let America Vote vehemently oppose Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination.”
