End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Representative Dean Phillips (MN-03) is advancing to the general election:
“Since the moment he was elected, Congressman Dean Phillips has fought to root out corruption in Washington. Dean flipped this battleground district in 2018 by running a reform-focused campaign and rejecting all PAC money. In Congress, he followed through on that promise by leading efforts to pass the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics reform bill since Watergate. While Dean is standing up to corporate special interests to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Minnesota families, Kendall Qualls will defend their corrupt sway over Washington. We’re proud to stand with Congressman Phillips heading into the general election.”
ECU and LAV endorsed Phillips’ re-election campaign in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements. Phillips, who ran on a platform of reform in 2018, rejects all PAC money and showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 8,300 in MN-03, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
