End Citizens United Announces 17 House Endorsements

May 18, 2017

Washington, D.C. – End Citizens United (ECU) today announced its latest House endorsements for the 2018 cycle. The endorsements include 17 champions of campaign finance reform across ten states. ECU will connect the endorsed candidates with its three million grassroots members and fight alongside them to end the corrosive influence Big Money has on our democracy.

The full list of endorsed candidates includes: Nannette Barragan (CA-44), Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Scott Peters (CA-52), Norma Torres (CA-35), Elizabeth Esty (CT-05), Charlie Crist (FL-13), Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), John Yarmuth (KY-03), Anthony Brown (MD-04), Jim McGovern (MA-02), Ann McLane Kuster (NH-02), Carol Shea-Porter (NH-1), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Louise Slaughter (NY-25), Tom Suozzi (NY-03), Paul Tonko (NY-20) and David Cicilline (RI-01).

“These candidates are proven champions of campaign finance reform. Their re-election is critical to undoing the rigged system in Washington and getting Big Money out of politics,” said End Citizens United President and Executive Director Tiffany Muller. “We’ll work closely with them to push reform in Congress and ensure they have the resources to beat the Big Money special interests trying to buy the House.”

ECU is actively engaged in electing reform champions to Congress this election cycle and was one of the first progressive groups in America to endorse both Jon Ossoff and Rob Quist. ECU members raised more than $1 million for Jon Ossoff, with an average contribution of $14, ran paid media and recruited volunteers to help get out the vote. In Montana, the group exposed Greg Gianforte’s record undermining state and federal campaign finance law and its members have contributed more than $100,000 to Quist’s campaign.

The House endorsements follow an exciting month for the grassroots-funded political action committee. In April, the group announced that it is projected to raise $35 million for the 2018 cycle, entirely through small dollar donations, with $4 million from 100,000 donors already raised in Q1 of the off-year. The 2018 haul will surpass the $25 million it raised for the 2016 elections. End Citizens United is the nation’s largest campaign finance reform PAC with more than three million members.
