End Citizens United (ECU) today said the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should investigate the Judicial Crisis Network for a potential violation of federal consumer protection laws.
As reported in the IndyStar, the Judicial Crisis Network sent texts ostensibly from Senator Joe Donnelly to Hoosiers encouraging them to call Donnelly’s office in support of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The texts appear to be in violation of federal law which protect consumers from receiving automated texts without their consent and bans misleading caller identification information that intends to “defraud, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value.”
“The Judicial Crisis Network is purposely misleading Hoosiers. It’s a scam, plain and simple,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “These unaccountable special interests are spending millions of dollars in undisclosed corporate money to lie to Hoosier voters. With popular opinion against them, it appears they have resorted to breaking consumer protection laws. The FCC should investigate.”
