End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Texas U.S. Senate candidate, MJ Hegar, on advancing to the runoff:
“Congratulations to MJ Hegar. By rejecting corporate PAC money, MJ has built a people-powered campaign and shown Texans that she’ll take the fight directly to Senator John Cornyn by standing up for them instead of corporate special interests. Unlike John Cornyn, MJ will fight to unrig Washington’s corrupt system. Cornyn is facing the toughest election of his career, and MJ Hegar is the Democrat who can beat John Cornyn in November.”
End Citizens United endorsed MJ Hegar in May of 2019 because of her commitment to fight corruption and making Washington work for Texans. Hegar, who rejects donations from corporate PACs, is running a grassroots campaign powered by small-dollar donors.
In January, End Citizens United Action Fund released its first annual legislative scorecard that tracked and graded the efforts of every member of Congress on money in politics and government reform issues. Senator John Cornyn received an “F” for failing to support common sense legislation that roots out corruption, increases transparency, and strengthens ethics in government.
