ECU contributed over $100,000 to endorsed candidates
With Democratic control of both the House and Senate, the General Assembly can act on reform measures laid out in a letter by Democratic challenger candidates earlier in the cycle
End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating ECU-endorsed candidates for winning their races and flipping both the House and Senate:
“These candidates won their races by standing up to corporate special interests and business as usual in Richmond. Virginians know that the corrupting influence of unlimited, undisclosed spending in our elections is a roadblock to making health care more affordable, addressing climate change, and passing common-sense gun safety measures.
“Having Democratic control of both the House and Senate will pave the way for the General Assembly to act on comprehensive reforms, including creating limits on campaign contributions, eliminating dark money in Virginia elections, and restricting contributions from corporations with government contracts. ECU was proud to endorse these newly-elected legislators, and we congratulate them on their victory. We look forward to the work they’ll do in the Commonwealth to root out corruption.
“In 2020, we’ll channel the enthusiasm we saw in Virginia to elect reformers who will put the people first, not the special interest donors. It’s time to end the corrupt political system in Washington where those with the biggest checks have the biggest say.”
