WASHINGTON – Today, End Citizens United (ECU) PAC officially endorsed Doug Owens for the U.S. House of Representatives in Utah’s 4th Congressional District. End Citizens United is a grassroots organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and advocate for campaign finance reform.
“Doug Owens is a champion for reforming our campaign finance system,” said Richard Carbo, spokesman for ECU. “If we’re going to take on the billionaires and corporations who are trying buy our elections, it’s going to take leaders like Doug Owens to challenge the status quo. End Citizens United stands ready to support him, and we look forward to engaging our grassroots supporters to send him to Congress next year.”
“End Citizens United is one of the most important organizations fighting to reverse Citizens United,” said Owens. “We can’t continue down this path of letting big money own our election system. We are a government of the people, and I’m honored to have the endorsement of this grassroots organization. I look forward to working with everyone in Utah’s 4th District to hold politicians accountable to the people they represent.”
End Citizens United supports candidates who are committed to campaign finance reform. Doug Owens has been an outspoken advocate of removing the influence of money in politics. He continually has fought for greater transparency in identifying political donors and supports greater accountability in our election system.
End Citizens United was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. To date, ECU has raised more than $5.5 million from approximately 400,000 contributions, with an average contribution of less than $14. In addition, more than 500,000 grassroots supporters have signed their name to an online petition calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
Last month, ECU launched an aggressive online public awareness campaign with its first web ad. The new ad, filmed in various locations across the country, features ECU supporters who are fed up with the influence of money in politics. The new web ad can be viewed by clicking here.
