End Citizens United (ECU) today announced that it has endorsed Evan Bayh for United States Senate.
ECU is a grassroots-funded organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who, like Bayh, will fight to overturn Citizens United and to pass campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, secret money from our political system.
Outside groups have spent more than $10 million dollars propping up Bayh’s opponent, Congressman Todd Young, totaling 94 percent of the spending on television ads supporting him and attacking Bayh. The vast majority of that money has come from Super PACs and dark money groups.
“Evan Bayh is a proven leader with a record of putting problem-solving ahead of politics and hardworking Hoosier families ahead of the special interests,” said Tiffany Muller, Executive Director of ECU. “While Bayh’s fought to clean up our campaign finance system, Congressman Young is the embodiment of what’s wrong with Washington. Young stands shoulder to shoulder with Big Money influencers like the Koch Brothers who are rigging the system for their own benefit.”
“The Citizens United ruling shut ordinary Americans out of the political process and handed a way to rig the system to the special interests,” said Bayh. “The current campaign finance system is at the root of the dysfunction facing Congress. We can’t overcome the gridlock my opponent has created in Washington without serious reform to encourage greater disclosure, reduce the influence of corporate special interests, and promote greater participation from everyday citizens. End Citizens United is dedicated to this fight, and I’m proud to fight with them to take on these special interests and make our country work for all of us.”
End Citizens United, a grassroots funded political action committee (PAC), was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. To date, more than 1.5 million members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
