Washington, D.C. – End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Josh Butner (CA-50), Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), Max Rose (NY-11), and Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) for Congress. The candidates have committed to unrigging the system in Washington where politicians do the bidding of their mega-donors at the expense of their constituents.
“The influence of unlimited and undisclosed money in politics is corrupting our democracy. Politicians are giving away the store to big political donors and middle class families are paying the price,” said ECU President, Tiffany Muller. “These leaders are dedicated to unrigging the system in Washington and will fight to reform our broken campaign finance system so that everyone has a voice in government. Our grassroots members across the country are eager and excited to get to work and help elect them to Congress.”
The endorsements come on the heels of several high-profile announcements by the organization. Just this week, ECU announced that it raised $13.6 million in 2017 from grassroots donors who gave an average of $14 per donation. In the most recent special election, ECU helped elect Doug Jones to the U.S. Senate in Alabama, raising over $600,000 with an average donation of just $12 for Jones.
ECU’s endorsement will help these candidates compete with high-spending special interests by connecting them with its grassroots members in their own states and districts, as well as to its national network of 400,000 small-dollar donors. With an average donation of $14, ECU is projected to raise $35 million for the 2018 election cycle.
ECU is an entirely grassroots-funded organization dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to get Big Money out of politics so Congress focuses on all of us and not only its biggest special interest donors.
