Crow rejects corporate PAC money, while opponent has taken $2.7 million in corporate cash
End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Jason Crow for Congress in Colorado’s 6th district. Crow is making getting money out of politics a key pillar of his campaign and has pledged not to accept contributions from corporate PACs.
“By taking a stand to reject corporate PAC money, Jason Crow is proving that he’s accountable to the people of Colorado, not greedy corporate special interests. He’s putting his money where his mouth is,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Jason stands in stark contrast to his opponent, Congressman Mike Coffman, who’s bought and paid for by special interests and works to protect the rigged system. We look forward to working with Jason to give a voice to those who have been ignored by Coffman and his corporate sponsors.”
“I am honored to have the support of End Citizens United in our fight to restore the voice of Coloradan families in our democracy,” said Jason Crow, candidate for Colorado’s 6th district. “Corporate special interests have been buying our elections for too long; that is why I am taking the pledge to not accept corporate PAC money for my campaign. As our democratic institutions are under assault more than ever, it is critical that we restore transparency and accountability to our elections. Just as I have taken an oath to defend the Constitution as a soldier and a lawyer, I will do so as a member of Congress and work with ECU to overturn Citizens United and fight for campaign finance reform.”
While Jason Crow has pledged to not accept a dime of corporate PAC money, his opponent Congressman Mike Coffman has taken $2.7 million from corporate PACs over the course of his career in Congress and fought to increase the role of Big Money in politics. Coffman has repeatedly voted against the DISCLOSE Act, which seeks to increase transparency in election spending. He voted to block a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, and supports a bill backed by the mega-donor Koch brothers to keep Colorado voters in the dark about who’s spending to influence elections.
End Citizens United will connect Crow’s campaign with its 6,400 members in Colorado’s 6th congressional district and activate its 360,000 national donors to help ensure he has the resources to win. This cycle, ECU has raised almost $2 million in small-dollar, grassroots donations for its endorsed candidates.
ECU is a grassroots-funded organization dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, undisclosed money from our political system. Founded over two years ago, the group has grown to more than three million members.
