End Citizens United has endorsed Mike Derrick for Congress. Derrick is running to represent New York’s 21st Congressional District.
End Citizens United (ECU) is a grassroots-funded organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who, like Derrick, will fight to overturn Citizens United and to pass campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, secret money from our political system.
“After spending three decades protecting our national security in the Army and the State Department, Mike Derrick is running for Congress to fight for New Yorkers in his district, not for the big donors or special interests,” said Tiffany Muller, Executive Director for ECU. “Mike believes that a handful of wealthy individuals and corporations shouldn’t have outsized influence on the outcome of elections through anonymous and unlimited spending. His opponent, Elise Stefanik, has already sided with Big Money groups and helped them rig the system to benefit themselves. They’ll spend millions of dollars to keep her in place and she’ll keep supporting their agenda. ECU looks forward to working with Mike Derrick to give a voice to middle-class Americans who feel shut out of our democracy by ending the corrosive influence of unlimited and secret money in our politics.”
“We need to rein in the role that money plays in politics, beginning with an assertion that people – not corporate entities – are capable of free speech,” said Derrick. “I’m honored to receive the endorsement of End Citizens United, and will fight alongside them to take the reins of government back from the special interests and restore power in our government to hard working New Yorkers and Americans. We must bring more accountability and transparency into our political process — and overturn Citizens United.”
End Citizens United PAC was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. To date, more than 1.5 million grassroots members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
