End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Nicole Galloway for Governor of Missouri. During her time as Missouri State Auditor, Galloway has made rooting out government corruption and the outsized influence of dark money a priority. Now, in her campaign for governor, Galloway is continuing to fight corruption by making campaign finance reform a cornerstone of her campaign.
“As Missouri State Auditor, Nicole Galloway has put rooting out fraud and corruption at the forefront of her agenda,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “In her campaign for governor, Nicole is building a grassroots movement to unrig the broken system in Jefferson City that’s leaving too many Missourians behind. Throughout her career, Nicole has fought for Missouri families, and she’ll continue to do so as governor. We’re proud to endorse Nicole Galloway, and we look forward to helping her win.”
“The corrupting influence of dark money has rigged the system against everyday Missourians. As State Auditor, I witnessed firsthand how government works for political insiders and special interests, and against Missouri families. That’s why, in my campaign for governor, I’m making campaign finance reform a priority. Missourians deserve accountable leadership, and I’m running for governor to put Jefferson City back on the side of working families and restore faith in our democracy,” said Nicole Galloway.
Galloway is challenging Republican Governor Mike Parson, who took office in 2018 after former Republican Governor Eric Greitens was forced to resign after multiple corruption scandals. Parson is beholden to the corporate special interests who funded his campaigns, including hundreds of thousands of dollars tied to just one lobbyist.
In 2018, Galloway won her statewide election for Missouri State Auditor by six points, winning nine counties won by President Trump in 2016 and Republican Sen. Josh Hawley in 2018. That same year, ECU endorsed the Clean Missouri ballot initiative, which aims to increase transparency, limit the influence of Big Money in elections, and combat the undue influence of lobbyists in Jefferson City. The initiative passed with 62 percent of support across Missouri. Galloway has been supportive of Clean Missouri since its inception and remains so during the legislative fight to protect voters’ rights and preserve the initiative. The issue highlights the contrast between her record of fighting corruption and Governor Parson’s record of support for gerrymandering.
ECU and Let America Vote (LAV) recently merged to combat the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: Big Money and voter suppression. ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so that the government works for all Americans. LAV is building a grassroots effort to fight back against voter suppression and protect every American’s right to vote. Fight for Reform (FFR), an affiliated project of ECU and LAV, focuses on bringing transparency and accountability to state and local elections around the country.
