End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Representative Chellie Pingree for re-election in ME-01. A champion of campaign finance reform, Pingree has been fighting to overturn the disastrous Citizens United decision since the day it was decided.
“Rep. Chellie Pingree has been a leader in the fight against the unlimited, undisclosed money corrupting our political system,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “She has championed legislation to make elections more transparent and accountable so that everyday Mainers never get shut out of the conversation in Washington. We’re proud to endorse Congresswoman Pingree and we look forward to working together to fix our broken campaign finance system.”
“I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of End Citizens United, and look forward to continuing to fight in Washington for fair and transparent campaign finance laws that put power in the hands of people, not special interests,” said Congresswoman Pingree.
Leading the charge for reform, Pingree has cosponsored the 2017 Government By the People Act, which seeks to create a voluntary public financing system for Congressional elections that incentivizes small-dollar donors. Pingree also supports the DISCLOSE Act, which would require dark money groups to disclose their donors and political spending when engaged in political activity.
In 2015, ECU supported the Maine Clean Elections initiative. ECU has also endorsed Senator Angus King for re-election and Jared Golden in ME-02. The grassroots campaign finance reform group has over four million members nationwide, including 15,000 in ME-01.
