Helena, Mt. – End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Rob Quist for Congress. Quist, who is running in a special election to represent Montana’s at-large district, opposes Citizens United, the disastrous Supreme Court decision that opened the floodgates for unlimited, undisclosed spending in elections.
“Rob Quist will be an independent voice for Montana in Congress. A true grassroots champion, Quist refuses to cater to the special interests and millionaires trying to buy our elections. It doesn’t matter if it is access to public lands or keeping our elections fair and transparent, Quist fights for the people, not just the 1%,” said Tiffany Muller, executive director of End Citizens United. “That’s a sharp contrast to his millionaire opponent who has lobbied to sell off public lands and worked to undermine Montana’s good government and campaign finance laws through the secretive special interest groups to which he’s given thousands of dollars. ECU is proud to stand with Quist.”
“Like the majority of Montanans, I believe there is too much money in politics. Too often, politicians serve the interests of the groups bankrolling their re-election campaign rather than the people they were elected to serve,” said Quist. “I am proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United which has stood with hardworking Montanans and fought back against the corporations trying to buy our elections.”
End Citizens United was established in March 2015 to counter the harmful effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. The grassroots group is entirely funded by small-dollar, grassroots donors and has grown to over 3 million members with an average contribution of $14, making it the 3rd largest federal PAC of the 2016 cycle. This month, it announced that it has raised $4 million in the first quarter of 2017 and projects it will raise $35 million for the 2018 cycle, surpassing the $25 million it raised for the 2016 elections.
With thousands of members across Montana, ECU will help connect Quist’s campaign with local volunteers and activate its 330,000 small-dollar national donors to make sure he has the resources to win.
