End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Senator Tina Smith for U.S. Senate. A critic of the Citizens United decision, Smith is committed to curbing the undue influence of Big Money in politics. ECU also applauds Smith for opposing Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
“Senator Smith understands that special interests have far too much influence in our elections, which is why she’s committed to reforming Washington’s rigged system,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “She has been a progressive voice for all Minnesotans, and we need her in the Senate to continue fighting for their interests. We’re proud to endorse Senator Smith and look forward to helping her win in November.”
“It is time to end the corrupting influence of big special interest money on our elections and government,” said Sen. Smith. “That’s why I am fighting in the Senate to change this rigged system by working to reverse Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. I’m proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United and will continue fighting until we make sure that all voices are represented in our democracy, not just those with money and power.”
ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so it works for all Americans. ECU will connect Smith with its 64,000 grassroots members in Minnesota and its 400,000 small-dollar donors to help ensure she has the resources to win. So far this cycle, ECU, a grassroots funded political action committee with an average contribution of $14, has contributed $1 million to endorsed candidates and raised $5 million in small-dollar donations directly for their campaigns. ECU continues to elevate campaign finance reform as a national priority and advocates for meaningful reform that will ensure Congress focuses on all of us, not just mega-donors and special interests.
